maxon Group has revamped its C-Suite upon CEO Eugen Elmiger’s decision to hand over leadership to the company’s deputy CEO/chief operating officer (COO).

After 35 years with the company, including 15 years as its chief executive, Elmiger is stepping down from his position next March (2027) but will remain with maxon as vice chairman of the Board of Directors. Andreas Richter will assume the corner office at that point.

Elmiger joined the maxon Group in 1991 and was appointed CEO in 2011. When he started his tenure in 1991, the maxon group—formerly known as Interelectric ag—generated approximately CHF 50 million in sales and employed 408 people. The maxon Group currently has more than 3,000 employees worldwide, and 2025 annual sales amounted to nearly CHF 600 million.

Elmiger has played a decisive role in shaping maxon Group’s development over several decades. Under his leadership, the company further strengthened its international market position, expanded into new business areas, and continuously increased its capacity for innovation.

“This is the right time to hand over responsibility to the next generation. I look forward to continuing to help shape maxon’s future as vice chairman of the Board of Directors,” Elmiger said.

Richter joined the company in 2020 and has served as COO since then, bearing responsibility for all maxon Group production sites.

The succession plan is part of a long-term and carefully prepared transition process. Until the change takes effect in March 2027, Elmiger will continue to serve as CEO and will actively support the transition to a new leadership team.

The CEO transition continues the most recent generational change within the maxon Group. It began in June 2026, when the Group announced that principal shareholder Dr. Karl-Walter Braun would hand over the board chairmanship to his daughter, Dr. Bianca Braun.

Dr. Bianca Braun is pleased the Group will continue to rely on proven leadership in its operational management in the future: “With Andreas Richter, we are gaining a CEO who knows maxon exceptionally well and will consistently drive the future development of our company. He has many years of leadership experience within the maxon Group and believes strongly in the group’s focus on continuity, innovation, and sustainable growth,” she stated.

The CEO transition is part of a forward-looking evolution of maxon’s leadership organization. As part of this succession plan, additional changes are being made to the company’s leadership teams:

  • Chief Technology Officer Stefan Müller will also be appointed deputy CEO.
  •  Daniel von Wyl, currently managing director of the Sachseln production site (maxon motor ag), will become COO, assuming responsibility for maxon’s global production sites and succeeding Richter.
  •  Dominik Stockmann, currently head of Development at the Sachseln site, will become managing director of the site, succeeding Daniel von Wyl.

maxon supplies precision electric motors and drive systems, developing solutions tailored to customers’ needs in the medical, industrial automation, aerospace, mobility, and robotics sectors. Founded in 1961, the Swiss company is owned by the Braun family and is headquartered in Sachseln (canton of Obwalden). The maxon Group employs about 3,200 people at 11 production sites worldwide and is represented in more than 40 countries.
